The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, scheduled to take place this fall at the Fair Grounds Race Course over two weekends from October 8-17, is set to feature performances from over 180 musical acts.
The organizers of the festival, who made the announcement about the festival and released a trailer on their website and social media accounts on Thursday (June 24), released a star-studded list, consisting of 83 musicians. They also said the remainder of the lineup, which is likely to be quite big with more than 100 names, will be announced next month.
The artists named to perform during the first weekend (Oct. 8-10) include, Foo Fighters, Lizzo, Demi Lovato, Brandi Carlile and The Black Crowes.
Weekend two (Oct. 15-17) will feature performances from musicians including Stevie Nicks, H.E.R., The Beach Boys, Brittany Howard, The Isley Brothers, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, The Radiators and The Campbell Brothers.
This year’s fest will also feature a tribute to the late Big Easy legend Dr. John, who died in June 2019.
The Jazz Fest was canceled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, reflecting the first cancellation in the 50-year history of the festival.
“It takes something truly momentous to interrupt a 50-year New Orleans tradition as special at the Festival, but we feel strongly that the most prudent course right now is to allow more time for the situation to stabilize,” organizers said at the time.
